What I Don’t Love
1. Team Shotty Snipers is Too Slow
I don’t like this game mode. Team Shotty Snipers takes two teams of four and gives them a sniper and a shotgun. The sniper is a two-shot kill, with a headshot being an instant kill. The shotgun is basically just a one-shot kill if the player is within five feet of you. Maps tend to be large, with multiple different areas than you can warp to with portals. The problem is that this puts an emphasis on snipers and drastically slows down the gameplay. That isn’t what I want out of an arena shooter.
2. Shotgun is Too Powerful
Speaking of shotguns, I don’t care for the shotgun here. It is just so powerful. You can aim at their feet and still one-shot them with a headshot kill. At least make me actually have to aim with the thing. If the enemy is anywhere near you, they will basically be one-shot killed, and there is nothing they can do about it. I’m not a fan.
3. Races Need Work
I’m going to complain about an extra feature that doesn’t need to be in the game but offers new players a safe way to learn maps. This is my list, and I’ll do what I want. I love the idea of races. You go from marker to marker as quickly as you can and try to do it faster than anyone else. My main issue here is that finding the marker isn’t always easy. The maps are large and sometimes vertical, so it can sometimes be hard to tell where to go, which isn’t fun. I want to go point to point, not stop and look around between each point.
Yeah, if I’m complaining about an unnecessary bonus feature, that should tell you all you need to know about the quality of Splitgate. Now that you don’t have to wait two hours to play, I can’t recommend giving the beta a try. It is free! You have no excuse. You will also be able to play with your friends no matter how they like to game since Splitgate offers crossplay support between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
Thank you for keeping it locked on COGconnected.
