10 Awesome Moments in Fallout History

Here we are on November 10th and it’s finally time to dust off your vault jumpsuits and step into the wasteland once again. Fallout has become a cult success because of its brutal but comical rendition of the golden era set after a post-nuclear America. Why do we love it so much? Fallout manages to convey a sense of utter hopelessness and desperation, while throwing in a dash of dark humour for taste.

Since Interplay’s original release back in 1997, Fallout has captivated us with amazing stories, outlandish characters and terrifying enemies waiting to turn us into mole rat grub. In celebration of the release of Fallout 4, and while we give the game the time it deserves before dishing out our final review, we’ve compiled a list (in no particular order) of the most memorable moments from the Fallout universe. Sit back, grab yourself a Nuka-Cola and enjoy.

10 – First Steps Into the Capital Wasteland

You start out as a child, getting acquainted with the comforts of Vault 101. When your father disappears, you embark on a quest to discover his fate. That moment when you take your first step outside is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As your eyes struggle to adjust to the sunlight, you’re greeted by a gorgeous, vast open world waiting to be explored. It beats staying at home being bullied by those blasted Tunnel Snakes.

9 – Mad Brahmin

There’s a rare instance in Fallout 2 where you encounter a herd of pissed off, exploding brahmin. At first glance, they seem like your typical mutated bovine grazing their barren pastures. That was until they all started detonating around you. If you were at a low level it meant certain doom, so it was best to make a break for the exit grid.

8 -Nuking Megaton

In Fallout 3 you come across Megaton, a small shanty town built around a dormant nuclear bomb, which is probably not the most ideal place to build a settlement. You later run into Allistair Tenpenny who thinks Megaton’s an eye-sore and wants it removed. You’re left with a choice to disarm the nuke, saving the town or turning Megaton into a mega hole. Choosing the latter costs you a hefty -1000 karma points but they are karma points very well spent.
