Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson established himself as one of the best Madden NFL players in the NFL, taking home the trophy in Madden Bowl XXI on Thursday night in Scottsdale. Peterson triumphed over Washington Redskins Running Back Alfred Morris, Philadelphia Eagles Running Back LeSean McCoy and San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick to claim the title.
This year the competitors took the field in Madden Ultimate Team, a special mode within Madden NFL 15 that allows players to create the most dominant lineup possible comprised of both modern NFL stars and the all-time greats of the game. Peterson utilized a ferocious backfield combo of Aaron Rodgers and Bo Sanders to keep his opponents off-balance and dominate while on offense. Peterson dispatched Alfred Morris in the first round, but faced reigning Madden Bowl Champion LeSean McCoy in the finals. Peterson attempted to control the clock by running the ball, while McCoy looked for quick opportunities to score with deep passes. With a minute left in the 4th quarter McCoy threw a deep ball down the sideline, which was intercepted by Madden NFL 15 cover athlete Richard Sherman. After Peterson’s team took a knee to run out the clock it was the Cardinals’ cornerback hoisting the Madden Bowl trophy for the loyal, local fans who braved rainy conditions to see their hometown hero compete.
For the first time ever, the tournament was streamed live on Twitch, and fans can now jump into Ultimate Team in Madden NFL 15 and play against the competitors’ teams in special Solo Challenges for a limited time.
Before Madden Bowl kicked off GMC and Microsoft hosted a special Gamer Bowl event pitting two players against one another for the chance to win a special one-of-a-kind custom Xbox One console, with the finals taking place in the all-new GMC Canyon equipped with OnStar 4G LTE. When guests arrived, and throughout the night, MICK was spinning tunes to pump up the crowd and keep the energy high. As the tournament and party rolled on, those in attendance were able to keep their phones fueled thanks to special Verizon charging stations, and their bodies fueled with a late-night delivery of Papa John’s pizza. Attendees were also treated to the magic of a Super Bowl halftime with an unexpected Pepsi Halftime performance by Nico & Vinz, and a headline performance by Florida Georgia Line and Nelly. Lil Jon also took the stage for a special DJ set, and the entire evening was hosted by the hilarious Kevin Hart and the incredible Michele Beadle.
