Risk Your Soul for Freedom in Black Jacket
Mi’pu’mi Games and Skystone Games have announced that Black Jacket, a narrative-driven roguelite deckbuilder, will launch on May 12 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. The teams also released a new gameplay trailer that highlights the game’s dark tone and its inventive approach to card-based strategy.
In Black Jacket, players enter the underworld as a lost soul searching for a way back to life. The Ferryman controls the only escape and demands coins as payment. Players must earn those coins by battling restless spirits, each driven by their own tragic past and a desperate need to escape.
The game reshapes classic blackjack into a more strategic and unpredictable experience. Players never see their opponents’ faces and instead rely on reading hands and playstyles. Each match challenges players to analyze behavior, exploit patterns, and manipulate the board using rule-breaking cards. They can swap cards, alter values, and stack powerful synergies to gain the advantage. Every win brings them closer to freedom, while every loss increases the distance between them and the Ferryman.
The story unfolds between encounters through gameplay and dialogue, revealing the histories of both the player and their opponents. Each battle pushes the narrative forward while deepening the mystery surrounding the underworld.
“Black Jacket is about more than just luck,” says Mi’pu’mi Games. “It’s about learning to control the game flow, outsmart your rivals, and uncover their stories. We wanted to create a deckbuilder that feels both familiar and completely new, where modified blackjack becomes the foundation for endless creative strategies – all wrapped in a dark, narrative-driven world that respects the player’s intelligence and curiosity.”
With its strong focus on strategy and storytelling, Black Jacket stands out as a fresh take on the roguelite deckbuilder genre ahead of its release later this month.
