Step Inside the Court Once More in Basketball Classics
Publisher Acclaim and indie developer Namo Gamo have officially brought Basketball Classics to modern consoles, following the recent reveal of its sequel, Super Basketball Classics, at the MIX & Kinda Funny Spring Game Showcase. The original title is now available digitally for $9.99, with a limited-time 10% launch discount across PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
First released on Steam in 2019, Basketball Classics quickly stood out as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of arcade sports games. Built by the two-person team at Namo Gamo, the game captures the charm of retro basketball titles while delivering fast-paced, pick-up-and-play action designed for modern audiences. Its 5-on-5 gameplay focuses on simplicity and excitement, featuring powerful dunks, quick passes, and an easy-to-learn control system.
With its console debut, a wider audience can now experience the high-energy gameplay that laid the foundation for the upcoming sequel. Super Basketball Classics, which will feature the iconic Harlem Globetrotters, is set to launch later this year on both consoles and PC.
Speaking about the release, co-founder David Pilkington described the project as a long-time dream finally realized after nearly a decade of development. He also credited Acclaim for helping bring the game to a global console audience.
Inspired by games like Tecmo Super Bowl, it blends retro visuals with streamlined three-button controls and a side-scrolling perspective, making it perfect for quick matches, couch multiplayer, and highlight-worthy moments.
