Sony has officially started selling refurbished PlayStation 5 consoles through its online store, PlayStation Direct. These are pre-owned hardware that buyers returned to the company for different reasons. Now, these units are available at a discounted price on the website.

The hardware could have been returned because it was faulty. Or maybe the user just changed their mind after opening the box and sent it back for a refund. Either way, it can’t be sold as brand new anymore.

Sony says these refurbished consoles are ” as good as new”. They are also cleaned and tested “extensively”. Each unit also comes with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty. Moreover, it is important to note that these consoles are the PS5 launch model and not the slim one.

In the US, you can snag a refurbished PS5 with a disc drive for $399.99 or the Digital Edition for $349.99. In the UK, the only option right now is the disc-drive version, which costs £389.99.

When you go for a refurbished PlayStation 5, you could save up to $100 (or £90) compared to buying the new PS5 Slim, which comes with a full price of $499.99 / £479.99. There is currently a $50 / £50 discount on PS5 Slim consoles until early next week. This is a huge opportunity for all those looking to buy a new console and are a bit low on budget.

Sony is also preparing to launch the latest PS5 Pro in November. This powerful console will be available for a price of $699.99 / £699.99.
