North American Baldur’s Gate Players Will Have to Wait Until July Due to Production Changes
Larian Studios, the developers behind the critically acclaimed third installment of the Baldur’s Gate franchise, have announced that the physical deluxe edition of the game for PS5 in North America will be delayed until July.
The announcement was made through the studio’s official Twitter account. Larian Studios explained that the delay is due to “production changes” beyond their control, stating, “We had to follow specific processes set by production companies when manufacturing the PS5 discs.” These processes have caused extended approval times in certain regions.
Despite the setback, Larian Studios assured fans that they are working to expedite the process. “We expect all PS5 North America copies to be ready in around 14 days, followed by another 10 days to begin delivering these directly to players. We are also in talks with the manufacturer to understand whether it is possible to hire extra temporary staff to reduce assembly times.”
The studio apologized to those affected by the delay, acknowledging the frustration of not being able to play the game. They also emphasized the importance of creating physical editions, explaining, “By committing to creating physical editions, we were hoping to preserve the almost nostalgic feeling of unboxing your newest game, and this is a commitment we’re hoping to bring into the future with us, this time ensuring we continue to work closely with our partners to manage the planning and production process.”
In a follow-up post, Larian Studios confirmed that the physical copies for Xbox have shipped, as have the physical copies for PS5 in the EU and Oceania regions.
This delay is an unfortunate hiccup for North American fans eagerly awaiting the physical deluxe edition, but Larian Studios is making efforts to ensure the wait is as short as possible.
