The Epic Seal of Approval
Epic Games has been rocking the boat in gaming pretty hard this past year. They launched the Epic Games Store with exclusivity deals, much to the dismay and salt of hardcore Steam users. Big name examples include Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3, both of which are now available for purchase on Steam. This move was a challenge to Steam to become more fair to developers and publishers in terms of the cut they take. In the same vein of developer and publisher-friendly services, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has announced his support of Nvidia GeForce Now.
This announcement comes after a handful of big publishers have pulled their games from the online service. These names include 2K, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard. Sweeney says that GeForce Now is the most friendly service to developers and publishers, and that the more support it has from the gaming community, the healthier it will become. Sweeney also calls out Apple and Google for their “taxes” on games. While Epic Games does not have control over what is on GeForce Now the way they do over what is on the Epic Games Store, their message appears to be the same; allow competing services for the choice and benefit of developers, publishers, and customers (my words, not Sweeney’s).
Epic is wholeheartedly supporting NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW service with Fortnite and with Epic Games Store titles that choose to participate (including exclusives), and we’ll be improving the integration over time.

Just like any change that shifts power, there is bound to be resistance. Do you think that Sweeney’s endorsement of GeForce Now will sway anyone? Or do you think we will see more publishers pulling their games from the service? And do you think that competition of services is a good or bad thing? Let us know in the comments below.
