Trademark Suggests a Possible Sequel to Nintendo’s Hottest Holiday Gift This Year
A Twitterbot picked up a trademark registered by Nintendo over the holidays for what appears to be a new SNES-style controller. This suggests one of three things, according to WWG:Â A SNES Classic Edition, A SNES Switch Controller or just a Nintendo trademark bit of housecleaning.
If the product in question is designed for the Switch, it would mean a detraction from their sleek design. Unless said controller boasts the same home/away flexibility as the Switch, the possibility is low.
If it’s a cleanup effort by Nintendo, this still leaves room for a SNES Classic to eventually hit the market. After all, a company wouldn’t want third-party imitators for sale when their original hardware is hitting the shelves.
Finally, if the trademark means a SNES Classic Edition is coming, it would be a prime time to do so. Having one system hit the shelves a year after the first product was such a smash hit would be good for holiday sales. Of course, all of this is pure speculation. Even if fans and analysts are convinced something is a wise move, the company is not obligated to follow these predictions/desperate hopes.
Maybe by the time this next system is official and/or real, it will be possible to get a NES Classic Edition as well.
