Microsoft Approved NES Emulator For Xbox One, Can Play Classic Nintendo Games

NES Emulator Coming to Xbox One

It has been a busy past few days with all sorts of new console news. This week, Sony announced a new slimmer and lighter PlayStation 4 with the PS4 Slim, and they also revealed the PS4 Pro. Release dates and prices were revealed for both consoles. Today, we learned that Microsoft just approved an emulator for the Xbox One that can play classic Nintendo games.

NES Emulator

Universal Emulator, an independent application by developer Nesbox, passed Xbox One certification this past week. It allows users to play ROMs of NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced titles.

It is a cool concept and one that has been around for awhile. Nesbox’s emulator has been available on Windows Phone and PCs for some time. Also, the Universal Emulator appears to be compatible with Microsoft’s HoloLens wearable. This likely doesn’t sit well with Nintendo; however, it is perfectly legal.

It will be interesting to see how long this sticks around. Nintendo is notorious for taking down fan games and other forms of copyright infringement.
