Massive Changes Coming to DOOM Because id Listened to Fans
So id Software’s latest release, DOOM is good. Like, really, really, really good. It’s fast, it’s brutal, it’s bloody and it borders on insanity… but it’s missing something. It’s missing something that fans worldwide have been asking for since release. It might not be missing something for that much longer because id has heard your pleas. Buckle up, bitches… it’s time for a free for all Deathmatch.
In a recent interview over on Gamespot, DOOM Executive Producer Marty Stratton stated that the DOOM team has heard the moans and groans (the squeaky wheel gets the grease after all), and mentioned that Deathmatch is on the way.
The current multiplayer suite for DOOM has hardly been an attraction up until now as many fans flat out ignored it. It’s not that the options are bad so much as the one option that everyone really wanted was such a glaring omission.
The id Software team is also working on more post-launch DOOM content and Stratton was the first to admit that the multiplayer options are still team focused more than anything much like the current options. Regardless, knowing that Deathmatch is on the way and that it will likely feature a rotation of great maps is something to celebrate.
Private matches are apparently also being planned as part of a future update so you can enjoy those bloodthirsty free-for-alls away from the prying murder cannons of the public. It will likely include options to toggle the demon power-up mode and allow you to select the maps you want to play as well.
Now the biggest question that remains is when do we get it?
