Welcome to the Wasteland in Afterglow
Indie developer Shadow Council has officially released Afterglow, its new post-apocalyptic mobile MMORPG, on the Apple App Store and Google Play as a free-to-play title.
Set 77 years after a devastating global nuclear war, Afterglow takes players to a retro-inspired version of the American Southwest, where they step into the shoes of a refugee trying to survive in a dangerous wasteland. Along the way, players will uncover mysterious artifacts, explore abandoned locations, and interact with rival factions that shape the game’s evolving world.
The game lets players with busy schedules enjoy the game without requiring the hours of daily play that traditional MMORPGs often demand. Its offline progression system lets players issue commands to their characters and return later to see their progress. The game also features turn-based combat, skill-based character progression, a player-driven economy, and an ethical monetization model that avoids pay-to-win mechanics.
At launch, players can collect more than 1,000 items, customize their survivor with over 400 skins, master 50+ skills, and experiment with 11 weapon types and five armor categories. The wasteland features 24 enemy types, 40+ resource nodes, five unique factions, story quests, side missions, and exploration points. Social features such as clans, leaderboards, and an in-game mail system are also available from day one.
Shadow Council says this is only the beginning for Afterglow. Future updates are planned to introduce elite enemies, dungeons, clan-owned settlements, a new equipment tier, and a dedicated PvP Arena, expanding the game’s endgame experience over time.
For fans looking for a mobile MMORPG that respects their time while still offering meaningful progression, Afterglow looks like a promising new addition to the genre.
