Enter the Brutal World of What We Carry
Independent developer LuckXDesign Studio has officially launched What We Carry, a brutal modern roguelike deckbuilder inspired by classic RPGs and the unforgiving spirit of text-based masocore experiences. Available now on Steam starting February 28, the game challenges players to survive in a dark, reactive world shaped by meaningful, event-driven decisions. You can check out the official launch trailer below to get a glimpse of the action ahead.
What We Carry is all about choice and consequence. Every encounter, whether an environmental hazard, a mysterious event, or a sudden enemy ambush, offers multiple paths forward, each with tangible outcomes. Combat is tactical and deliberate, rewarding players who carefully consider stats, abilities, and long-term strategy. Exploration demands thoughtful risk management, as every step forward can shift the balance between survival and defeat.
Replayability stands at the forefront of the design. A dynamic event-card system delivers branching outcomes, while unique enemy scenarios, including escalating multi-wave battles, keep encounters fresh and unpredictable. Players can discover powerful armor, relics, and weapons that dramatically influence combat styles and traversal options. Rare special events grant permanent progression, offering stat increases and unique equipment that shape both strategy and character identity.
A standout feature is the Strategic Darkness mechanic, which influences movement and risk as players traverse a world constantly shadowed by looming defeat. Each run becomes a tense balancing act between ambition and caution.
Developed entirely by LuckXDesign Studio as a passion project, What We Carry also marks the foundation of a new independent studio dedicated to systemic design and meaningful player agency.
