Explore a Lost Kingdom in Loulan: The Cursed Sand
ChillyRoom has announced that Loulan: The Cursed Sand, their upcoming action RPG, will be coming to PlayStation 5. Set in the lost kingdom of Loulan along the ancient Silk Road, the game invites players to step into the bones of the Cursed Sand, a skeletal warrior bound to the power of sand. His journey is one of tragedy and devotion as he searches for his lost princess and uncovers the mysteries. Drawing inspiration from the real-world archaeological discovery of the “Xiaohe Princess,” the story blends ancient history, myth, and emotion into a haunting adventure.
The protagonist embodies a dual-form warrior who channels both life and decay. In Sand Form, golden grains swirl around his body, granting balance and fluidity in battle. When the sands are unleashed to forge a massive blade, he transforms into Bone Form, a relentless fighter capable of taking on multiple foes. Throughout his journey, the Cursed Sand will face a variety of powerful enemies, from the radiant Loulan royal family who wield the power of the sun to the frost-bound spider clans of the Western Regions.
Developed by a 16-member cross-regional team supported by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s China Hero Project, Loulan: The Cursed Sand combines the team’s passion for classic action games with their fascination for Silk Road mythology. Many of the developers have previously worked with renowned studios, including Santa Monica Studio, FromSoftware, and PlatinumGames.
Designed with a retro top-down perspective, the game merges arcade-style combat with modern mechanics. It promises to offer players an immersive journey through deserts, ruins, and rivers of living sand. The game will also be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
