Blind Descent Opens Alpha Playtest on Steam

Explore the Martian Depths in Blind Descent

META Publishing, part of Owlcat Games, has launched the alpha playtest for Blind Descent, a sci-fi survival game set beneath the surface of Mars. First revealed during the Summer Game Fest season, the game is now playable on Windows PC through Steam.

Developed by Pokuch, Blind Descent puts players in the role of a lone survivor waking up after a failed mission. As they explore a vast underground ecosystem, the search for missing crewmates turns into a strange struggle to survive and adapt in an alien world.

This alpha version focuses on solo gameplay. This will give the development team a chance to test core mechanics and study how players interact with the environment. Developers are actively collecting feedback through the Steam Hub and Discord to improve the experience.

The game introduces a feature called the Symbiosis System, inspired by the alien logic of the TV series Scavengers Reign. This system will shape how players connect with the ecosystem, with more details to come.

Players can explore a reactive underground biome, craft survival tools by studying alien life. All while building shelters that nature may reclaim or corrupt. As they interact with the environment, they can absorb spores, fruits, and infections that mutate their bodies and unlock new abilities. Advanced climbing tools allow players to scale vertical shafts and move through dangerous terrain. A co-op mode for up to four players is also coming out, though it is not available in the current version.

Blind Descent is set to launch on PC through Steam in 2026, with a full console release planned. Players can wishlist the game right now.
