The Last Starship Update 16 Brings Ship Painting, Stargate Challenges, and More

Get Onboard in The Last Starship

Update 16 for The Last Starship has landed, bringing a host of new features that take creativity and challenge to new heights. One of the standout additions is the ability to paint the exterior of your ships. Whether you’re adding sleek racing stripes or proudly displaying your custom insignia (yes, even NCC 1701), this feature opens up a whole new world of visual customization. Players can also share their designs on the Steam Workshop to inspire others.

Survival mode has received a significant upgrade, too. Jumping to new sectors now requires navigating a jump gate. Sometimes it’s a matter of simple repairs or realignment, but in some cases, players will encounter hostile forces demanding a toll. How you handle them is up to you: pay the price or fight your way through. Either way, this change adds a new layer of tension to every jump.

Beyond these headline features, the update includes plenty of smaller but fun additions such as space sofas, asteroid cracking, and early stargate test runs. A new developer video walks through the changes, and players are encouraged to dive into the updated experience now. Check it out right below.

The Last Starship remains in Early Access, and the developers aim to release a new free update every two to three months, leading up to version 1.0 in Spring 2026. Despite not being finalized, the game has already seen players clocking over 100 hours of playtime. The game is currently 40%off as part of the Summer Sale. So, if you’ve been holding out, now might be the perfect time to join the fleet.
