A Milestone for Killer Is Dead
Dragami Games has announced that Killer is Dead has officially sold over one million units worldwide. It marks a major milestone for the game, nearly 12 years after the game’s initial release. Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and led by the distinctive vision of Goichi “Suda 51” Suda, the action-packed title originally debuted on August 1, 2013, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan. It later launched in North America on August 27 and in Europe on August 30. A PC version followed via Steam in May 2014.
A collaboration between Kadokawa Games and Grasshopper Manufacture, Killer is Dead blends surreal storytelling with stylish hack-and-slash combat. The game follows Mondo Zappa, a new recruit at Bryan’s Executioner Office, who travels the globe to eliminate dangerous criminals, some of whom extend beyond the bounds of Earth. Armed with a katana and a biomechanical arm, Mondo delivers swift justice while uncovering fragments of his own troubled past.
Beyond the blood-soaked action, the game is known for its unconventional narrative and mature themes. Mondo navigates a world filled with violence, memory, and sensuality, weaving together a story that is as bizarre as it is unforgettable. Whether portrayed as a ruthless assassin, enigmatic lover, or something in between, his journey is equal parts haunting and provocative.
With its distinctive visual style and offbeat storytelling, Killer is Dead continues to hold a unique place in the action genre. Surpassing one million sales solidifies its legacy as a cult favorite among fans of stylish, narrative-driven action games.
