California Tax Credit Signals Potential Fallout TV Series Renewal

Promising Update for Prime Video’s Fallout Adaptation

Prime Video’s highly anticipated Fallout TV series may not have received an official renewal for a second season yet, but a recent production development suggests that the show’s future is looking increasingly optimistic. The series has been offered a substantial $25 million tax credit by California to facilitate the relocation of filming from New York State to the Golden State for its potential Season 2.

While Prime Video has yet to confirm any renewal news for the adaptation of Bethesda’s acclaimed video game series, the significant tax credit allocation signals strong indications that preparations for a second season are well underway.

However, tempered excitement may be warranted, considering recent history. Prime Video’s Citadel was previously granted a similar $25 million tax credit for its second season relocation to California but was ultimately canceled, with the allocated funds redirected elsewhere within the incentive pool.

The California Film Commission’s issuance of tax credits aims to deter “runaway production,” attracting productions that might have otherwise opted to film in other states or abroad. Fallout Season 2 was initially reported to commence filming in September in Toronto, making the potential relocation a notable development.

Fallout joins a roster of twelve TV series benefiting from a total $153 million incentive provided by the California Film Commission. Notable recipients include the first season of NCIS: Origins, the Ryan Murphy-produced Dr. Odyssey, and the Niecy Nash-led Grotesquerie.

The news arrives just ahead of the premiere of Fallout Season 1 on April 11. Developed by Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the series is set to release all eight episodes of its inaugural season simultaneously.
