Worked Like a Dog
At the end of the month, a new farming sim will be hitting PC and consoles. On its surface, Everdream Valley appears to be just like any other game in the genre. You are a young person who is living at a rundown farm belonging to your family for the summer. However, some of the gameplay features make it stand out in pretty interesting ways.
Of course, when you start out in Everdream Valley, you have to repair and clean up your farm. You restore it to its former glory, then take it to new heights and efficiencies.
Part of the farming life is the livestock. Developer Mooneaters shed some light on what separates their game from others. You have your standard animals, like cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep, as well as dogs and cats. Different animals have different functions. They are divided into Farmed animals, Helper animals, Wild animals, and Collectible animals.
Cows, chickens, and sheep are central to nearly all farming sims for their animal products. In Everdream Valley, animals like dogs and cats have unique abilities. Dogs can herd certain animals, as well as locate specific species. For example, if you let them sniff a piece of wool, they will seek out and lead you to the nearest sheep. Cats on the other hand, can lead you to a sick animal, so you can treat them.
Animals don’t do all the work though. Just like other games in the genre, you can benefit from building new tools for automation. Everdream Valley will be coming out on May 30th for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. A demo is available on Steam.
