Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards Carves Its Legend Onto PC and Switch Today

Unleash the Power of a Demi-God

Many classic video games draw on religion, mythology, and cultural heritage to give their stories, mechanics, and characters more power. One modern example of this is Hades, Supergiantโ€™s stunning Greek mythology-inspired roguelite. Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards does something similar, but with an entirely new focus: Inca mythology. This isometric action-RPG stars the titular Aluna, the demi-god daughter of a Spanish conquistador and South American nature goddess Pachamama, as she embarks on a quest to restore the amulet her mother entrusted to herโ€“and fulfill her destiny. Players will explore 16th century Latin America, use magic and a variety of weapons to overcome foes, and do battle with mythological beasts from Colombian tales. If this release date trailer is anything to go by, itโ€™ll be a great time.

Believe it or not, Aluna started life as a comic book superhero created by Paula Garces and Antonio Hernandez. She currently stars in an ongoing book called The World of Aluna, written by Assassinโ€™s Creed and Batman: Arkham Origins scribes Ryan Galletta, Dooma Wendschuch, and Corey May. A demi-god fighting evil and figuring out where she stands in 16th century Colombia sounds pretty awesome, but the press release suggests that Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards will be less superhero and more pulpy adventure. Not that weโ€™re complaining. Itโ€™s hard to beat a good pulp.

โ€œI love comic books and video games, yet as a Latin American woman, I never saw myself reflected in the media I was consuming. Antonio and I created Aluna to change that,โ€ said Aluna creator Paula Garces, who also voices Aluna in the game. โ€œCreating the comic book series was a thrill, but letting players actually embody Aluna and see the world through her eyes in a video game is a dream come true!โ€

Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards is all set to bring 16th Century Latin America to life in a way weโ€™ve never seen before. Letโ€™s hope this adventure goes down in history.

Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch for $19.99.
