Six Seasons and a Game Brings Community’s Paintball Episodes to Life

The Darkest, Most Terrible Timeline Has One Bright Spot

Community has a reputation of being The Little Show That Could. It survived Dan Harmon’s firing, his rehiring, a hemorrhaging of cast members in the last few seasons, and even being canceled and picked up by – of all people – Yahoo, during their ill-fated foray into streaming services.

2021 is starting out on the right track. 6 Seasons and a Game is a free-to-play, fan-made, Community-themed paintball game. After much anticipation, the game-based-on-a-tv show you never knew you wanted is being released. A labour of love from volunteers finally on steam! from 6SeasonsAndAGame

Still, it’s easy to make a case for Community’s cult status. The show follows a study group at Greendale Community College as they navigate higher education and become a surrogate family. A trademark of the show was concept episodes: a few times a season, the show would thrust the characters into a different genre or have them explore a different trope, whether that be a dystopian episode which pre-empted a concept later used in the Black Mirror episode Nosedive, clip episodes featuring adventures the study group had when we weren’t watching, or even a zombie apocalypse.

Among the most well-known and beloved concepts – one popular enough to be the focus of five episodes, including a two-parter – is paintball. As Abed would say, “Occasionally our campus erupts into a flawless postmodern homage to action-adventure mythology mischaracterized by the ignorant as parody.” Now, thanks to a couple of dedicated fans, we’re getting the chance to take part for ourselves in Six Seasons and a Game.

The game puts players in the shoes of a Community character in the hallowed halls of Greendale Community College, AKA the college of my dreams. The game is currently available in Steam Early Access, and has one mode available: an 8v8 battle with your team working to take down their doppelgangers (Or doppeldeaners. Or doppelchangers. Or deanelgangers.), inspired by the Season 4 episode Advanced Introduction to Finality. The full release is set to drop in January and continue to update for as long as volunteers continue to contribute. Fans of the series can look forward to copious easter eggs, meta gags, and in-jokes. In the trailer alone are posters for a movie called Ass Crack Bandit and IMDB, starring Luis Guzman.
