Supergiant Games Posts 12 Hour Long Hades Yule Log Video For Those Cozy Holiday Vibes

There May Be No Escape, But There is Plenty of Time For Fireside Snuggles

Hades is having a pretty awesome year, all things considered–picking up awards right and left around the globe, collecting glowing review scores from news outlets everywhere, inspiring new (and bizarre) achievements, and generally giving a lot of people a hell of a good time. It makes sense that developer Supergiant Games would want to celebrate this excellent holiday season somehow. We just didn’t expect them to do it by uploading a 12-hour long video of the in-game yule log burning merrily away. Not that we’re complaining. The gentle crackling sounds and lovely cel-shaded firelight are a great background to any holiday event, up to and including vegging out on the couch playing Animal Crossing. Nobody asked for it, but everyone needed it.

This charming, Greek mythology-inspired roguelike may not have cleared out the Game Awards, but it definitely cleared out our hearts. Countless pieces of art, cosplay, and even songs have been created in honor of Hades. Hopefully, this trend continues into the new year–we for one can’t wait to see what Supergiant Games and the Hades fandom have in store for us come 2021. Fingers crossed for more cosplayers. The art of Hades is absolutely fantastic to see brought into the real world, and the Greek pantheon have never looked better. Especially Zagreus, though admittedly, he doesn’t have a ton of real-world depictions–at least, not many that survived the last few thousand years.

We do kinda wish they’d given Dionysus ram horns, though. Obviously, the design they gave him is as charming and suspicious as you could want, but like… horns would’ve been awesome. Come on, they gave Zagreus burning feet and a single glowing red eye, they could’ve drawn on an older set of myths and given the god of wine and madness some spooky traits of his own. We’re simple people, okay? We see pretty monsters, we click. And isn’t that the real spirit of the holidays?
