Creative Assembly has announced that they will be throwing their hat into the ring of strategy card games. Called Total War: Elysium, this game is going to take away all of the city building and real-time battles and replace them with cards on a board. Creative Assembly has just published a brand new trailer that goes over some of the details of the game.
Elysium is not going to take place in one specific time period like in most Total War games, but rather gather all of history’s greatest generals and leaders and have them duke it out. From there you will be able to take control of certain commanders and build a deck. Each character is going to have special abilities and access to unique units. As you can tell already, there is a lot of similarities between Total War: Elysium and other big card games like Gwent and Hearthstone. The generals that you take control of are more than likely people that have already been featured in previous titles. For instance, the trailer shows off people such as Napoleon.
There has been no mention of a release date yet, but when this game does officially launch it is going to free to play. Due to the game being totally free there is a great chance that microtransactions are going to be shoehorned somewhere into this title. It is almost a certainty. There are no companies on the planet that would release a free game just because they are feeling in a charitable mood.
Judging just from the trailer alone, it does not look like Elysium is going to be blowing anyone away with its graphics or artwork. Hopefully, this is made up by its stellar gameplay.
Total War: Elysium will be available on mobile devices and PC when it launches.
