Crime Has Never Been So Easy
The hit show Peaky Blinders is making its way into the world of video games this summer. Called Peaky Blinders: Mastermind, this game is going to be a top-down strategy game that will follow the escapades of the Shelby crime family. The game itself will not be directly following the storyline of the show, but it will, of course, use it as a sort of guideline. You will be running into and controlling characters from the show as well as trying to navigate the underworld of Birmingham in 1920s England.
In your playthrough, you will be given control of six different characters in each mission. Each character will have their own strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the various scenarios you find yourself in, it will be up to the player to determine when and how to use each character’s abilities to maximize their effectiveness. Making sure all of these characters work together in tandem is going to be key to victory.
Looking at the gameplay trailer, it looks as though Mastermind took a lot of inspiration from XCOM. Something that is not uncommon in the strategy genre. Peaky Blinders is one of the biggest TV shows in the world right now and it would not be much of a shock if Masterminds is able to capitalize on the name recognition alone. Games that are attached to movies and TV shows have a bad reputation amongst gamers (and for good reason) but that does not mean it should be dismissed at first glance. Sometimes keeping things simple is the best thing to do when it comes to making games. Noting too flashy or over the top. At first glance, it looks as though this is what Peaky BlindersL Mastermind was able to accomplish.
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Summer.
