Dice Announces That They’re Going to Halt Updates For Star Wars Battlefront 2

You’re on Your Own Now

Dice has just announced that they will no longer be adding anything new to Star Wars Battlefront 2 after the Battle of Scarif update launches tomorrow. It was only yesterday that Dice proclaimed that they would no longer be supporting Battlefield 5 either. It looks as though Dice is going to be focusing entirely on whatever Battlefield game they have planned for 2021. General maintenance is not going anywhere but just don’t expect to see any new content in the future.

Battlefront spinoff

The modern resurrection of the Star Wars Battlefront series has been a mixed bag of emotions generally speaking. While the core gameplay was usually crisp and enjoyable, both titles were plagued by enormous amounts of microtransactions and pay to win mechanics. Most fans pinned the blame on EA rather than Dice for that.

The Battle of Scarif update is going to add a couple of new and interesting features such as a new tropical map to fight on. Along with two new heroes, Rey and Kylo Ren from The Rise of Skywalker. This is by no means going to turn the game on its head, but it is a nice touch.

Dice did not touch on what the future of the Battlefront series is going to look like. But chances are we will not see another entry into the franchise for quite some time. There is going to be a lot riding on the next Battlefield game that is due to arrive in 2021. It looks like they are going to have just about everyone in the company working on this next project. Dice and EA are going to have a tough time winning back millions of jaded fans after the Battlefield 5 debacle.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available on the PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
