Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta Actually Happening

Almost Two Whole Days in February

Phantasy Star Online 2 has been a major force in Japanese gaming for ages. It seemed like we were doomed to never see it touch our shores, but here we are! Finally, Xbox One players are scarcely a week away from the closed beta happening. At long last, we’ll see for ourselves how this colossal MMO measures up.

Phantasy Star Online 2

The closed beta is running from February 7th to the 9th. Admittedly, this isn’t a whole ton of time for a test drive, but you take what you can get. Interested players can sign up for the beta through the Xbox Insider Hub. Non Xbox players are mostly screwed, but there is talk of a Windows 10 version launching later in the year. So what exactly is one signing up for with PSO2?

According to the official site, PSO2 is an action RPG with gobs of options for weapons, fighting styles, and character appearances. They also mention that the game is free to play, which is a giant red flag for an MMO. It’s possible this game is the exception, it really is! But freemium games in this genre tend to be a merciless grind that can only be subverted by cold hard cash or incredible luck. We’ll know for sure once the game launches for real this Spring.
