Infinity Ward Says Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Isn’t Political

Infinity Ward Devs Confirm Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Isn’t Political

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is going for a more realistic approach to the longstanding COD franchise, and Infinity Ward and Activision have received their fair share of criticism for it already. That said, there are many fans of the series who are more than excited to see what this latest game has to offer, and by the look of their multiplayer, and recent DLC announcement, it’s a whole heck of a lot. In a new interview with Game Informer, Infinity Ward devs had the perfect response when asked if Modern Warfare is a political game.

Jacob Minkoff, the Campaign Gameplay Director, and Taylor Kurosaki, Narrative Director, at Infinity Ward recently sat down with Game Informer for an interview about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. When asked if it’s a political game, both had a lot to say. Minkoff stated, “The question ‘Is this a political game?’ doesn’t actually mean anything, because what does the word ‘political’ mean to you?” Minkoff continues, “Do we touch on topics that bear a resemblance to the geopolitics of the world we live in today? Hell yeah, because that is the subject matter of Modern Warfare. Are we telling a story that has anything to do with the specific governments of any countries that we’re portraying? No. So if you’re asking is Trump in the video game? No, he isn’t.”

Kurosaki had this to say, “These are the types of questions that have been asked for the last 50 years. We do talk about concepts like colonialism, occupation, independence and freedom. We don’t maybe say those words specifically, but that’s the realm we’re in. You could have a game set in revolutionary America talk about those exact same things.” He continued by stating that Infinity Ward wants to explore the concepts of what people will do to achieve victory, while not being completely good or evil.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to drop on October 25th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. What do you think about these themes? Are you liking what you’ve seen from the game so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to keep it locked for updates!
