Good News For Some, Bad News For Others
The chances of a battle royale mode appearing in the next Call of Duty game are very slim. This is going to upset a bunch of people and make the old school players jump for joy. A few months ago it was rumored that Call of Duty Modern Warfare was going to have Gun Game and a battle royale mode. However, it seems as though that idea was ditched in order to work on other aspects of the game that Infinity Ward felt was more important.
Multiplayer design director Joe Cecot spoke about this in an interview with IGN. “We really focused on Modern Warfare, authentic and gritty, realistic weapons, and it’s a different experience,” he said. “It’s really…just about pulling back to Modern Warfare and keeping that pure.” He also added, “We’re excited for large player counts and things like that, but right now we’re really focused on core multiplayer.”
It seems as though instead of adding a battle royale mode into the game, Infinity Ward has opted to expand on Ground War. There is already a 20 vs 20 mode in Ground War. It is rumored that it will go up to 50 vs 50. Something to directly challenge EA and the Battlefield franchise. The fabled 50 vs 50 has not been seen yet and will most likely have to wait until the beta drops in September to know for sure.
Infinity Ward has taken the realistic and gritty approach this year. Something that fans have been begging for for years. In order to appease the fanbase. Cuts had to be made, and battle royale had to go. However, this is something that could be added to the game later on. Additionally, there is no season pass, so all of the future content will be free.
