Days Gone will have an additional “Survival’ difficulty mode and weekly challenges coming in June, its game director, Jeff Ross, revealed Wednesday.

According to Ross, Survival difficulty features “no fast travel or Survival Vision, and an immersive HUD that removes maps and indicators from the gameplay screen.”

“Every tweak and change made is designed to further immerse players and ratchet up the tension to make this the definitive survival experience,” Ross added. He also gave details about the weekly challenges.

“Each week beginning in June, a new Bike, Horde, or Combat challenge will be deployed to test players even further,” Ross said. “These challenges take key gameplay features of Days Gone, and twists them in unique ways to earn additional items and rewards. We’ll give you more information on the specific challenges down the road.”

“It has rough patches, but Days Gone is a good time,” the review’s author wrote. “Ripping across the vast wilderness looking for hordes to wipe out is undoubtedly fun, and Deacon’s sort of comic book story is competent. Is it an excellent open world game? Not quite. Is it worth playing? Oh yeah.”
