2018 Was Year of the Hentai
With hentai on the side of video games, they will finally be universally seen as a legitimate art form. Steam is now a platform to unite the two. Valve announced in June of 2018 that it will no longer police what games are put on Steam. This was hentai puzzle games’ time to shine. Since then, games have started popping up on Steam with “hentai” right in the names. Some have even been trending in various genres. I guess it helps being able to put the content right in the titles of your games.
Because this matter required personal investigation, I found that about 50 titles starting with “hentai” have been added in the past six months. Even more have appeared with that keyword buried somewhere in there. Does this mean that we will see more people playing hentai games? Probably not. Most of these games are match-3 puzzle or jigsaw puzzle or visual novel games. These games are known for their one-handed playability, not known for their variation in gameplay. Basically, if you see “hentai” in the title, one thing you should not get up is your hopes.
Notable Tit(le)s
Titles that have done well enough to trend in the “casual” genre include Hentai Hot Puzzles released a few days ago, and Oppai Gril released today. Both of these games are puzzle games, surprise surprise. Another notable title is “Teleportals. I swear it’s a nice game”. I didn’t misplace those quotations, that’s the actual title on Steam. Based on the user reviews and gameplay videos, it really looks like a nice game, kinda. The developer released a follow-up called “Maytroid. I swear it’s a nice game too”. Both are 2D platformers, the former being a puzzle game and the latter being a Metroidvania type. We can’t forget what brought us here: they both have hentai.
So if this is something that interests you, then awesome! I’m happy for you! If not, maybe you’ll find some sort of entertainment just by browsing the titles. Maybe you’ll find something you do enjoy. Let us know in the comments. Anyway, hentai lovers unite! …but maybe wash your hands first.Â
