The Hunt for the Uncharted Movie’s Director Comes to an End (For Now)

Will the Movie Yield Gold, or Will it Meet a Dead End?

A month ago, the Uncharted movie had itself a director in Shawn Levy. He has since walked away from it, due to scheduling conflicts with another of his movies Free Guy. He also walked away from another video game movie Minecraft. Levy seems to abandon a lot of movies, or maybe he’s dodging cinematic bullets. The new director for Uncharted is Dan Trachtenberg. Trachtenberg is the director behind 10 Cloverfield Lane and Black Mirror. Whether or not he has what it takes to earn the love of the games’ fans, we’ll have to wait and see.

Uncharted Movie

As far as the cast goes, we will see Spiderman: Homecoming’s Tom Holland portraying Nathan Drake. Fans have so far shown little faith in that decision, especially since the fan-made Uncharted short starring Nathan Fillion hit the net. There are a lot of people that say Tom Holland is too young to play Nathan Drake. In the games Drake is much older than Holland, but the movie is set to take place before the games. As a prequel, the Uncharted movie is going to be about Nathan Drake becoming who we see at the beginning of the first Uncharted game. He will be learning the tricks of the treasure hunting trade from his mentor Sully.

Speaking of Sully, Tom Holland said in an interview that two actors in the running for the role are Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pratt. As we all know, Chris Pratt is Tom Holland’s co-star in Avengers: Infinity War and the two have since become good friends. He is also Holland’s personal top choice for the role of Sully. Since there has already been a sequence in the games where Nathan Drake meets Sully, the movie will likely take place during and after those events.
