The Piranha Plant has been a staple enemy in Mario games since the very beginning. Now, thanks to some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, we can finally play as one. Launching in February, the Piranha Plant must be redeemed. This means you have to go out of your way to get it; players do not just receive it as an update. And you must do it before the end of the month. To start this process, players must register their game online.
If SSBU was purchased through the eShop, your game will be automatically registered. Physical copies must be registered manually. To do this, players must first make an account at my.nintendo.com. If you already have it, great. Next, put the game’s card into the console and highlight the game on the HOME menu. Then press + or – to bring up the Options menu and go down to the My Nintendo Rewards Program. Select the “Earn Points (Game Card version only)” option and your game is now registered.
Now that your game is registered, the eShop will email you a redemption code for the Piranha Plant. You can redeem this code anytime between the time you get it and June 30th, 2019, but don’t sit on it too long. The deadline to register your game is January 31st at 11:59 PM, but as long as you register before, you’re good, even if the code comes after. Since digital copies are automatically registered, it is unclear if players will still get a code if they buy the game after January 31st. If you miss the Piranha Plant, it’s not gone forever. It can still be purchased later his year.
