Regardless of Level Difference Bioware Says You Can Still Play with Friends in Anthem
Anthem is set to release in just a few short months and at The Game Awards this year Bioware shared a brand new story trailer full of exciting tidbits to keep the hype alive. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Jonathan Warner revealed that Bioware wants players to be able to play with their friends and they won’t be placing an obstacles in the way to stop that from happening.
Game director for Anthem, Jonathan Warner, made it clear that the developers of the game won’t have any obstacles between you and playing with your friends, regardless of level differences. Say you are a couple levels behind some of your friends but you want to join their story missions, Warner says you will be able to do just that. That’s not to say there won’t be some consequences to doing so however. Jonathan Warner warns that while there will be difficulty scaling to allow you to play with friends levels ahead, you won’t be able to escape the spoilers if you jump ahead.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly here’s what Warner had to say about this, “If you’re ahead in the story and I’m behind, we allow you to do that. We’re not trying to socially engineer that experience. So, you’ll get a little warning that will say ‘Hey, you’re about to play a mission that’s ahead of the story, and it may contain some spoilers for you,’ and we leave that choice to you.” Warner continued, “We do some difficulty scaling for you so that it won’t be a horrible experience. We look at your pilot level, and we do some scaling based on that and who you’re with. It will be a good experience for you, no matter what. Especially with a game like this, you’re not always fully coordinated with your friends. You always have one person in your group who is playing all the time and who is much higher level, and we don’t want to discourage you from playing together, so we’re going to allow that to happen.”
If you’ve pre-ordered the game or have an active Origin Access (PC) or EA Access (Xbox One) subscription the free Anthem demo will be available to play on January 25th, 2019. For those who do not have either subscription or have no pre-ordered the title, the demo will be available the following week, on February 1st. Anthem is set to drop on February 22nd, 2019.
