Better bring your power armour
Bethesda has been fighting an uphill battle since the launch of Fallout 76. Ever since Fallout 3, players have been dreaming about interacting with other players in the wasteland. With Fallout 76 these interactions have maybe not be what fans have been expecting, but early next year Bethesda is planning on shaking things up a bit, with a focus on Fallout 76 PVP.
In a news update on Bethesda’s site, they announced what they players should be expecting in the coming updates. These include various bug fixes, but they also teased something bigger. “We’re also hard at work on a new mode where you can work together, or not, without PVP restrictions. We’re already having fun playing it at the office and we’re hopeful to roll it out to all of you sometime in the first quarter of the year” says the news post. By “PVP restrictions”, they probably mean the process of initiating PVP fights. Currently, when player A attacks player B, player B won’t take full damage unless they retaliate against player A. If player B refuses to fight, player A will eventually receive a bounty.
Our hopes for the future
If the above “restrictions” are lifted, then players may be able to execute sneak attacks to gain a tactical edge online. They may also be susceptible to mini-nukes suddenly blasting their legs off. That probably won’t be too fun for everybody, especially more casual players. Hopefully, Bethesda will have the foresight to resolve non-consensual battles before they even happen. Mayhaps they will implement PVP servers or a passive-mode akin to GTA V’s online feature. Or maybe they will commit to making mistakes as they have been, but we want to have hope that the Bethesda we know and love will come back to us. Nobody wants Fallout 76 to be a disaster, that’s why we are so critical; because we want it to wow us.
Well, what do you predict for this update? Will you jump right into it? Or will you avoid it like the plague? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to stay up to date with all our Fallout 76 news on our site.
