Apple Makes Direct Comparison on Stage
Tech giant Apple revealed a trio of new products on Tuesday during a keynote media event: New iPad Pro’s with an edge-to-edge screen, a new MacBook Air with Retina Display, and an updated Mac Mini. But a statement about the iPad Pro caught our attention. According to Apple, the iPad Pro can punch out graphics as good as the Xbox One S. You can watch the entire event by clicking here.
Apple made this claim while they were detailing the graphics performance in the new tablet. They said the iPad Pro can match the graphics performance in an Xbox One S in a product that’s 94% smaller without relying on power. They also stated that it’s 92% faster than all portable PC’s sold in the last month, and for good measure, 1000x faster than the first-gen iPad released many moons ago.
If accurate, that’s truly an impressive technical achievement from Apple. While each iteration in their iPad — and to an extent the iPhone as well — has been aiming to rival console graphics parity, this is the first time they’ve made a direct comparison. Having said that, while graphics are certainly looking better and better on phones and tablets, it’s the games themselves that still matter in the end.
The new iPad Pro comes in 11″ and 12.9″ screens that are edge-to-edge and have a Liquid Retina display. It also has Face ID and the new A12X Bionic chip. It supports the second generation Apple Pencil (also announced) and the Smart Keyboard Folio. It launches on November 7th. You can find out more about it on the official page.
