PS4 Message Crashes Have Been Fixed, According to Sony

They Gave a Set of Instructions

Over the weekend, PS4 users discovered an online issue that would brick the console. Since then, Sony claimed the issue has been resolved and users can go about their games without the need for a firmware update.

Sony updated their followers over on Twitter, via their PlayStation UK account, and said, “We’ve since fixed the issue, and it wasn’t bricking consoles, just sending them into a crash loop that can be quickly fixed in under 5 minutes. Delete the message on the PS mobile app, go into Safe Mode, use Option 5, console back to normal.”

When the error was first reported, it started out as strange message players would receive. Upon opening the message, the console would crash rather spontaneously. Of course, this error phenomena stirred speculation (and panic) among many users. Sony’s remedy is the same one users discovered not long after the problem erupted.

There’s been no firmware update that permanently fixes the problem, so it’s up to players to resolve the errors manually. The company has asked users who spot the message to report them to PlayStation.com. No word yet on how Sony will handle the messengers who instigated the console crash loop, but we’ll update accordingly.
