Pete Hines Talks Microtransactions in Fallout 76

The Currency Has A Name Now!

With Fallout 76 releasing in less than two months, and the beta coming later this month, everyone is starved for information. In a recent interview with Major Nelson, Pete Hines talked a bit about the game, including their version of microtransactions. Thankfully, they’re still cosmetic. But what else is new?

According to Hines, the currency in question will be called Atoms. In addition to that, Xbox One owners who pre-ordered the game will get access to 500 of them right off the bat. The interview, which you can check out below, takes care to mention how easy these Atoms are to acquire. They don’t give any more specifics, however.

On the one hand, it’s great that Atoms are going to be used on cosmetic stuff only. The Bethesda team promised us this back in June and they’re sticking with it. Fantastic! Of course, developers and team members will often have a somewhat skewed view of how easy to acquire these things are. Perhaps it’s not all that important, given what they’re for, but it will be interesting to see just how generous Fallout 76 is with these Atoms once players start up the game later this month. Fallout 76 will be entering its beta phase on October 23rd on Xbox One. PC and PS4 players will get into the beta on October 30th, with the full release happening on November 14th.
