Artifact Launches This November for $19.99
Valve has announced the release date for their upcoming Dota 2 collectable card game, Artifact. It is due to release on Steam for PC, MacOS, and Linux on November 28th, 2018 and on iOS and Android in 2019.
According to Valve, “280 cards will be available in the shipping set” for Artifact, which strongly suggests that more cards may come available at a later time as expansion packs. Players will also be able to buy and sell cards on the Steam Community Marketplace. Valve claims that the game will “give Trading Card Game enthusiasts the deepest gameplay and highest fidelity experience ever in a fantasy card game.”
Attendees at this year’s PAX West in Seattle, which runs between August 31st to September 3rd, will be able to get their hands on Artifact. There’s a good chance we’ll learn a little bit more about the game during PAX as well. While there, players can compete against each other in a continuous, single-elimination gauntlet to win a chance to “challenge a champion on the main stage.” Participants can also earn various game merchandise such as signed prints of artwork as well as two codes for free copies of the game when it is released.
When the game launches in November, Artifact will cost $19.99, a stark difference compared to the free-to-play models of other digital card games like Hearthstone.
The game is designed by Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield. In Artifact, players control three lanes of action at the same with the intention to power up their cards and to eventually take down their opponent.
