There’s a Little Bit More to Do Now in the Sci-Fi Open Universe
For their wildly ambitious MMO that seeks to blow Minecraft out of the water, developer Novaquark has unveiled mining and transportation. In a game about building, you need resources; more importantly, you need to harvest those resources. Today, the developer introduces the mechanic and how it works.
The purpose of Dual Universe is to build the infrastructure and life you want in space, with everything on the horizon and beyond serving as your sandbox. In order to get started, the MMO now offers three utility-focused tools. Playing solo, with your friends, or with total strangers, you can locate and harvest resources in order to build the community of your dreams. And you can learn how directly from studio Novaquark’s founder, CEO Jean-Christophe Baillie. Catch him in the video below, revealed today via press release.
Implemented via the latest game update, the new player tools are as follows:
Hand Scanner tool
A mid-range proximity device used to scan the user’s surroundings and give feedback about the distance to available ore veins. While its range is limited, this is the ideal tool to prospect around a given region during a mining expedition.
Directional tool
A close-range device used to detect and mark ore in a given direction as the user looks around their surroundings. Despite having a more limited range than the hand scanner tool, the detector tool offers players a more accurate way to pinpoint the location of ore, making it the perfect accompaniment to the brand new mining tool.
Mining tool
Combine with the Hand Scanner & Directional tool to dig your way beneath a planet’s surface and extract the precious ore players can use to construct buildings, ships, and much more. Simply aim at an ore deposit with this brand new tool, charge it up, and collect the extracted resources. As players find higher level materials, though, the charging and extraction process will take more time.
In addition to harvesting tools, the latest Dual Universe update does away with unlimited inventory space. Instead, Vehicles have been optimized to carry huge loads across vast distances. How players allocate resources will determine the kind of objects they can build and manage. However, the inventory limit has arrived in tandem with a “primary container,” a container in which players can transfer their inventory volume and transport anywhere.
Currently, Dual Universe is in Pre-Alpha and the latest resource update is part of a long-term goal to expand and optimize the in-game economy. To learn more about the experience, you can visit the official website. We’ll be bringing you more updates throughout the various stages of development.
Happy gaming
