Some companies are more open to Early Access than others. Case in point, I had no idea that NIS America was even considering such things until today. Assault Spy is the company’s first foray into Early Access game development, out today on Steam.
If you’re the sort of person who doesn’t mess with Early Access titles in general, know that this one involves using a briefcase to beat your opponents into a shower of metal shards and sparks. There’s other weapons, of course. But those weapons aren’t briefcases so I can’t imagine why you’d give them a second thought.
The game is being introduced first in Early Access in order to get proper feedback during development. As this is an action-heavy title, this seems like a good strategy. Gameplay-wise, this looks a bit like a Devil May Cry type release, complete with a combo gauge. Although the aesthetic is surely closer to a Persona title, on further inspection. No word on just how polished the game is at this point, but there will be plenty of time between now and September to correct any glaring errors that pop up.
