Microsoft Can Make Plenty of Waves Between Now and 2020
Of the very few guarantees in life, Microsoft is behind two of them: Gears of War 5 and Halo 6 are in development. Granted, there’s almost no telling when we’ll see the return of these intellectual properties. Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter, however, believes we’ll see them before the next console lands.
Presumably, we are near the end of the Xbox One generation, and the next iteration will arrive within the next few years. Before that time comes, Pachter believes we’ll witness both Halo 6 and Gears of War 5. By his estimation, the next Xbox will arrive no earlier than 2020. Thus, considering the development cycles of Microsoft’s acclaimed IPs, their timelines could see them launch before then.
“I think Xbox Two, or whatever they call it, will be a 2020 event, so I will be very surprised if we don’t get Halo and Gears before that,” Pachter said in an interview with GamingBolt. “If I had to bet, Halo this year, Gears next year. I think Microsoft has been very quiet, but we’re getting them in the next two years. If I’m wrong about what year the next Xbox launches in, then I think one of them will be a launch title. It won’t be exclusive, I think it will be old gen and new gen, like Nintendo did with Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Switch.”
Microsoft always has two horses in the race. If Gears of War 5 and Halo 6 reach the end of their development before the next Xbox arrives, Microsoft might decide to reserve one installment as a launch title, as Pachter mentioned. That said, a lot can happen between now and 2020, including Microsoft’s distribution of a new IP. Thoughts? Feel free to drop us a comment down below.
