Better To Be Better And Late Than Mediocre And On Time
Days Gone was recently pushed back to 2019. This is always something of a downer, but it’s worth it to see an upcoming game get more polish and shine. After all, we wouldn’t want the team to push out something that’s less than optimal in the name of schedule adherence.
Christopher Reese, Sony Bend’s director, spoke about how they’re “definitely pushing the PlayStation 4 to its limits.” during a video interview posted at Game Informer. This suggests that they’re aiming to make as big an impact as say, God of War recently did. With Sony Santa Monica raising the bar for the rest of Sony’s in-house developers, it’s no wonder they’re running up against delays. Those are big shoes to fill, after all.
John Garvin, Sony Bend’s creative director, spoke about the added pressure associated with this in-house status. For Garvin and the team, there’s a need to make “something that’s worthy of first party because we’re part of Sony.” To that end, something like a delay in the game’s release is understandable. The team at Sony Bend wants to make Days Gone “best in class” among open world games of this nature. Anything less just wouldn’t have that same first-party shine, you know?
