Core Pokemon RPG Coming to Switch During “the Second Half of 2019”
Amidst all the hubbub surrounding the recent announcements at the 2018 Pokemon Video Game Conference — the free-to-play Pokemon Quest and Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! — the Pokemon Company also revealed that an all-new core Pokemon game is in the works for the Switch and that is slated to release in the second half of 2019.
Aside from the fact that this untitled game would feature the eighth pocket monster generation, details are pretty slim at the moment. We know that it will be “in the style of X and Y and Sun and Moon” and that it will be developed by Game Freak once more, the same team behind all of the mainline games. Since the game will be reminiscent of the 3DS titles, it’s safe to say that there won’t be any Pokemon Go-style flicking this time around.
Managing director of Game Freak, Junichi Masuda, clarified that the game will be out in “the second half of 2019” but didn’t dive into any more details.
This entry must be the one that was originally announced during the Nintendo Spotlight at E3 2017 where series president, Tsunekazu Ishihara, confirmed that development had already begun.
