‘Bloodstained’ Goes Old-School with This Upcoming 8-Bit Game
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is getting an old-school spin-off game ahead of its release later this year. Titled “Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon“, the 8-bit Castlevania-style platformer is set to come out on May 24th.
Koji Igarashi, a Japanese developer who is well-known for his work on the Castlevania series and is currently developing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, talked about the upcoming spin-off in an official trailer.
In Curse of the Moon, players will take control of four different characters: Zangetsu, Miriam, Gebel and Alfred. Zangetsu is the main character of the game and meets the other three characters during his journey.
“Switching to these characters with their unique abilities will unlock new paths through the treacherous stages,” the game’s YouTube description reads. “Your choices in recruiting these adventurers will change the difficulty of the game, and may even affect the ending!”
“In the Kickstarter campaign for ‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’, one of the stretch goals was for an 8-bit game. This is that game,” Igarashi explained. Igarashi added that this upcoming spin-off game was being developed by Inti Creates, a Japanese developer that collaborated with the Bloodstained developers on the Kickstarter.
Kickstarter backers who donated over the $28 tier will receive a code for the spin-off that’ll allow them to play for free. The code will be available for those backers either on the official home page or the Kickstarter page. For everyone else, Curse of the Moon will cost $9.99.
Igarashi added that he was able to play the spin-off himself and “had a great deal of fun with it.”
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is going to be available on the Nintendo 3DS, Switch, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One and PC on May 24th.
