We Still Might Get Proximity Chat For PUBG on Xbox One

It’s Great For Giving Away Your Position, You Know

There’s still one or two features that aren’t common to both versions of PUBG. Specifically, the Xbox One version of the game still doesn’t have proximity chat. Which is a shame, really. How else are inexperienced players supposed to give their position away?

The feature isn’t a high priority for the console team, though it’s still in consideration. Nico Bihary mentioned as much on Twitter, pointing out that there’s a lot of work involved in bringing the feature to console. That’s not to say that it’s never happening, just that it might not happen for a while. At the very least, they’ve acknowledged it as something console players are looking for.

Beyond the feature’s tactical advantages, proximity chat opens up the game to some fascinating player interactions. I mean, Sea of Thieves uses it with great success, and so does Friday the 13th. While it might be some time before the feature gets to consoles, PC players can already immediately turn it off. You know, so they don’t accidentally talk at the wrong time and get themselves killed. PUBG is currently available on both the PC and the Xbox One.
