LawBreakers Support Officially Falls Short of Goals
The games industry is a beautiful place but also vicious. Arena Shooter LawBreakers is an example, garnering wide acclaim yet failing to garner mass appeal. As such, the studio updated its website today with a new message about their direction.
According to the folks over at BossKey, it’s official: LawBreakers servers cannot be maintained at their current state. The resources required to sustain the game or make it free-to-play are seemingly unavailable. You can view the explanation below, BossKey’s full statement available at their website:
The fact is LawBreakers failed to find enough of an audience to generate the funds necessary to keep it sustained in the manner we had originally planned for and anticipated. And while a pivot to free-to-play may seem like easiest change to make, a change of this magnitude takes publishing planning and resources to do it.
The team here has worked hard on this game over the past three and a half years and our studio is determined to give this game the second life it deserves. However, between now and then, we cannot sit idle. We will continue to support the game in its current state, but we also need to focus on other projects with fresh creative leaders. We have been working on something new and we can’t wait to share more about it! It’s a passion project that we’re in complete control of.
Thank you for your ongoing understanding and patience.
While they admit that LawBreakers isn’t meeting any financial goals, BossKey seems unable to hammer the last nail in the coffin. The servers will remain up but no new content shall be added, so it seems. Now, they’re working on a new project, and it will be interesting to see how they maintain their current game while allocating resources to a new one. Nevertheless, we look forward to learning more.
