Better Than Pachinko, Right?
Konami has not been kind to their franchises for the last couple of years. For a while it seemed like the only new games we would get from them would come in the form of Pachinko machines. Profitable enough, but somehow terribly sad. Well, between Metal Gear Survive and this Castlevania announcement, at least fans will be getting some actual new games from the company.
The title in question is called Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. It appears to be a side-scrolling entry that supports up to four-player co-op. The title card features protagonists from various previous entries in the Castlevania series. If nothing else, Konami is doing an excellent job harvesting nostalgia right out of the gate.
Not a whole lot else is known at this point. No word on a release date or whether we’ll see this one outside of Japan, though it would be a sound decision on Konami’s part. After all, assuming Bloodstained comes out this year, the company would do well to have some competition floating around. Without something to answer Iga’s upcoming game, it’s almost as good as them handing him control of the concept. Of course, all that hinges on Bloodstained being better than say, Mighty No 9 was.
