Chrono Trigger Steam Port Is Getting Patched, Will Bring Back Original Graphics

More Patches to Arrive Over the Coming Months

Square Enix has announced their plans to fix the Steam port of Chrono Trigger, which was released as a surprise in late February. Instead of it being praised, it was criticized by fans for being a lazy port of the mobile version and that the updated graphics didn’t translate well to PC.

In an update made on Steam, Square Enix has revealed that they will release a series of patches over the next few months, the first of which will release in the first half of April. Included in the patch will be “an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.”

Square Enix intends to keep fans informed of the upcoming changes. “For now, be assured that we’re working very hard on adjusting, updating and supporting CHRONO TRIGGER on Steam,” reads the post on Steam.

As a sign of goodwill, Square Enix will also extend the availability of the game’s Limited Edition from April 2nd to 9 AM, April 30th PDT. Purchasing the game on Steam before that date will net players bonus digital goodies like a musical medley composed of various songs from the game’s soundtrack, digital liner notes from composer Yasunori Mitsuda, and six HD wallpapers.

Chrono Trigger is arguably one of the best RPG’s ever made so it stands to reason that fans would be upset when a port isn’t up to snuff. The game has been released on a number of platforms outside of its SNES debut including PS1, Nintendo DS, and iOS and Android.
