If you ever desired lessons in matters of social espionage, then prepare for The Council. The first episode for this episodic adventure has arrived in the form of The Mad Ones. Hope you’ve learned to live with consequences because this experience brings many.
The point of the Council is relatively simple, you navigate through various encounters as Lous de Richet, utilizing the game’s Social Influence System. During these adventures or misadventures, your interactions lead to permanent consequences. You can shape the fate of the story and yourself since each encounter essentially changes your attributes. One conversation could lead towards a mental handicap or improvement; the same applies to physical abilities. In other words, talking to people will leave you sharper or dumber or lamer than before you met. That’s a simplified way of putting it. But the special impact is in how the mysteries unfold.
During your adventures in The Council, you will encounter the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte and President George Washington. This is very much a mystery-adventure that works as a period piece. In Episode 1: the Mad Ones, you work to uncover the mysteries left by your mother before it’s too late. Not only that but she’s missing on Lord Mortimer’s private island, which means getting as much as you can out of the guests while you explore the location’s secrets. In so doing, you can play the diplomate, the detective, or even the jerk. Sundry options are available.
Richet’s numerous skills can be developed to align with your chosen approach to the adventure. Solve issues with diplomacy, delve into occultism to expand your historical and scientific knowledge, or play detective and see what others do not perceive. Your skills will have uses that extend far beyond your conversations with fellow guests. With 15 diverse skillsets to use and invest in, players are free to uncover THE COUNCIL’s mysteries how they see fit, with wildly varying consequences depending on their methods. The results will forever alter the life of Louis de Richet, of those around him, and shape history as we know it.
