God of War Sequels Will Continue to Explore Kratos and Atreusโ Relationship
One of the more interesting changes made to the hotly-anticipated God of War is the change from Greek to Norse mythology. After six games following Kratosโ journey of revenge in the Greek setting, weโd say weโre more than happy to see him move locations, one that seems to be a bit colder than weโre used to seeing in the series. And according to Aaron Kaufman, Sony Santa Monicaโs Senior Online Community Strategist, it looks like the Norse setting will stick around in future sequels.
Kaufman was interviewed by JagatReview where he talked about the seriesโ new direction, the Norse mythology setting, the importance of Atreus, Kratosโ son, as well as what fans can expect with possible God of War sequels:
โGod of War right now is about Kratos, and who he is as a character, and how heโs evolving,โ Kaufman says. โThis God of War is โChapter 2โ of Kratos. We have ideas in our head of where we want to go. We know right now we want to stay in the Norse universe, we want to explore this relationship between a father and a son. We know they have a very specific destination to get to.โ
โBut we also know our fans out there are very savvy and smart,โ Kaufman continues. โWe wouldnโt just add Atreus to God of War if he were only a one-off. This is a fundamental big change. This being the beginning of chapter 2 allows Kratos to evolve and allows Atreus to come in as a new [vital] character. Where we go from here, youโll just have to wait and see.โ
Itโll be five years since the last game, God of War: Ascension, was released on PS3. Letโs hope that the wait between this new one and a sequel wonโt be quite as long.
God of War releases exclusively for PS4 on April 20th. Make sure you check out our hands-on preview of the gameโs beginning hours.
